TEEN FEST 2011

We got it together and it’s going to be a blast. http://www.modestosound.com/teen-fest_2011.htm

Here’s Ben Mesches’ Press Release:

Local Youth Music Advocate Modesto Sound Presents Teen Fest

Teen Fest Music Festival, Friday, August 5th, Martin Petersen Event Center

While Modesto Sound is known for providing inexpensive recording
solutions for teens in the Modesto area, it does much more as well.
The non-profit studio also strives to provide performance
opportunities for teenagers who lack the opportunity to play their
music around town. Teen Fest is the biggest concert they’ve planned
yet.
Many local teenagers wish that they had more opportunities to see
live music in Modesto. That’s the premise behind Teen Fest. Modesto
Sound wishes to provide the youth of Modesto with the opportunity to
see live music. There should be no need to go to Sacramento, Stockton,
or even San Francisco to catch a show.
The bands performing at Teen Fest are local to the Modesto area and
many of them recorded demo CDs at Modesto Sound. Performing at Teen
Fest will be The Josh Rosenblum Band, Bombs Overhead, Among Ashheaps
and Millionaires, Seph Hamilton, The Merry Nothings, Amelia Varni, and
Tyler Platt. The Josh Rosenblum Band plays blues based rock with such
finesse that they are a finalist in the Valley’s Got Talent Contest,
Bombs Overhead is a seasoned group that performs their own variety of
modern metal, Among Ashheaps and Millionaires plays high energy
pop-punk, Seph Hamilton performs broadway style pop, The Merry
Nothings are a budding indie group, Amelia Varni charms audiences with
her country-based pop, and Tyler Platt is known for his local acoustic
performances. The Josh Rosenblum Band and Seph Hamilton have also been
featured on Modesto Sound’s “Gem Splash 2” compilation CD.
There are some planned activities, such as a table to hang out and
string beads to make bracelets and key chains.  Brenda Francis,
Modesto Sound’s Founder, has found the bead craft table to be a
popular activity for teens.
Teen Fest will take place on Friday, August 5th downtown at the
Martin Petersen Center, located at the corner of 12th and H.  There is

a $5 suggested donation at the door.

Paige asked and I answered about how Modesto Sound is Doing!

Modesto Sound since moving into Gregori High has a new energy of being an upstanding program that is good enough to be part of a public high school program while continuing to be an independent business. Music Technology 2 is going to be held in the studio this coming year with students getting credit for learning here.

Our studio operates an after-school radio team and various volunteer opportunities for students from around the region.

I continue to get phone calls and e-mails from people around the
nation that find our web site and want to start a studio like this in
their community. Their “I Love What You’re Doing” feedback continues to inspire me.

Texas and Back

I took some time out to spend time with my youngest son and we drove to Texas together.  He’s starting an internship as an Electrical Engineer.  So perhaps he will help fix our electronics at Modesto Sound when we need something fixed!

Today I’m back to the studio where we have a new volunteer starting named Benjamin.  He’s home for the summer and knows how to run everything–attended Musicians’ Institute or Full Sail.  I think I will offer him picking out good music and making shows for public access TV audio to start with.  That has got to be fun!

Cup of tea, please

Last week I got to assist the audio crew for the show ”Burn The Floor”, a ballroom dance extravaganza that came touring through Modesto.  Derrick was the main audio guy and while we waited for the team to prepare to snake the cables from orchestra pit to front of house (not super efficient set-up), I made small talk about how we have almonds and grapes in Modesto which lead to talk of exports to Japan.  Turns out their “Burn The Floor” is extremely popular in Japan.

Which brings me to my plea: One of my goals is to tour Japan with a band from the USA since I speak Japanese and have a music management degree, so keep me in mind all you famous bands and dance groups!

Spamalot and Fiddler on the Roof

Brenda here with the latest on work outside of Modesto Sound. Two broadway shows completed: Spamalot (was that Broadway?) and Fiddler on the Roof–both at the ol’ Gallo Center.
Spamalot was a month or so ago and not much nice to say about that :D well, actually the props were cool like large cows.

Fiddler on the Roof we worked in Audio with Dennis and Crystal, both part of the audio engineer road crew. Dennis taught me more about tools (when putting on bolts to the speaker towers–”righty, tighty and lefty, loosey”). On Crystal’s amplifier rack was the sign “Amps off first – Moron”. So I worked on memorizing part of that message; I’m always trying to remember where the amplifiers get turned on and off in the chain of things; could blow the speakers!

Here at modesto Modesto Sound . . . summer camps are in the works!  Today at lunch I worked at improving the links to more information and made a shiny yellow box link on the home page.  I love web site building, instant gratification to the max.
